My goal is creating tapestries which capture magical, beautiful moments in nature: sunsets, flowers, butterflies. Then I can share my impressions! I walk in the mountains of Colorado, the deserts of Arizona, the local open spaces and neighborhoods of Boulder County. I enjoy and photograph a colorful sky, migrating butterflies resting on a bush of asters, the complex center of a flower, the gradations of color in a small flower or unusual colors in another. Each joyful image is gone too soon! I draw the image from my photo, find a variety of yarns, weave the drawing by immersing myself in the colors, shapes, and textures. FUN! JOY!
In my 40+ year career my work has been accepted in over 30 juried regional and national shows, plus the prestigious show, History of Visual Arts in Boulder, with artists in all mediums from 1890 to 2016 at the Dairy Art Center. My tapestries were available in galleries in Boulder, Denver, Aspen, Santa Fe, Scottsdale, and La Jolla. Corporations and individuals commissioned over 80 pieces. In the early years clients included Samsonite in Denver, Crossroads Mall in Boulder, Quantum in Colorado Springs, and inspiring individuals . . .many became friends such as Gloria and Leo Payne, Annie and John Denver. More recently I did work for medical centers: the maternity wing at Exempla Good Samaritan Hospital in Lafayette, the surgery waiting area for Platte Valley Medical Center in Brighton.
While all the large projects are exciting, these days I am more interested in transforming more of my photos into smaller tapestries. At 75 in 2017 I decided I need 75 more years to weave them all! There are many new pieces in my show at Creative Framing July/August 2019!
